The seminar presents research findings from researchers at the Children’s Institute on challenges in securing state services for children living in specific care arrangements, most notably children living with ‘unmarried’ fathers. The researchers highlight the challenges in registering births in such cases and the subsequent problems with accessing state grants, schools and other services. In discussing the High Court judgment (on appeal) in the Naki case, the researchers draw our attention to the wider problems at the heart of this matter.
